Becoming a Member of CPA Sri Lanka

Accountancy is a “social business” where strong communication skills and an outgoing personality are essential for interacting with clients and colleagues. To qualify as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), you must complete three years of practical work experience alongside passing the examinations set by the Institute. Requirements for Membership:

  • Pass all stages of the CPA examinations. Students completing the Professional 2 stage will receive a formal invitation to apply.
  • Gain a minimum of three years’ relevant practical experience.
  • Submit a satisfactory record of practical experience.
  • Be at least 21 years old and of good character.
  • Complete the Application Form.
  • Pay the relevant fees.

Training Requirements:

Practical experience must be supervised and can be gained in practice, industry, commerce, or the public sector. Training experience must be documented in a Training Record.

Competency Requirements:

Evidence of students’ practical competence in IT is a prerequisite for admission to membership. You may meet this requirement by either sending in your ECDL certificate or submitting a Certificate of Practical IT Competence signed by your supervisor (which testifies that you have adequately demonstrated all the ECDL competencies in the workplace). Any gaps in the required areas are required to be filled by taking the equivalent module(s) of the ECDL test and a certificate for the relevant module(s) must be submitted with your application.

Evidence of Practical IT Competence:

Practical IT competence is required for membership. Students may submit either an ECDL certificate or a Certificate of Practical IT Competence signed by their supervisor. Any gaps must be addressed by completing the relevant ECDL module(s).

Written References:

Two original signed references are required:

1. From the principal of your current or recent employer.
2. From a CPA member. If you do not know a CPA member, a reference from a member of another recognized accountancy body may be accepted.

Application Form and Fees:

Complete the Application Form and include it with all required documents, along with the Annual Membership Subscription.

Conferring Membership:
